不: Tone Change Rules
The so-called 4 tones of Chinese poetry and dialectology are four traditional tone classes of Chinese words. They play an important role in Chinese poetry and in comparative studies of tonal development in the modern varieties of Chinese, both in traditional Chinese and in Western linguistics.
不 is pronounced as a fourth tone when it precedes the 1st, the 2nd and 3rd tone.
When it precedes a character pronounced as a 4th tone, it becomes the 2nd tone.
不 becomes a neutral tone when it is used in a negative resultative complement or when it is placed between duplicated verbs (adjectives).
